The lab needs JavaScript: it drives your machine's own media encoders through the browser. Nothing works without it, and nothing is uploaded with it.

What this is, honestly

A demonstration of how far the browser platform has come, and a genuinely useful quick converter. It is not a replacement for FFmpeg on a server: you get whatever encoder your OS and GPU provide, with no control over presets or tuning, and results differ between machines by design. When quality consistency matters, use the command builder and run FFmpeg where you control the encoder.

Codec choices are gated live: if a codec is struck through, your browser has no encoder for it, which is itself worth knowing. Everything runs in memory, so very large files (multi-GB) are better served by native tools.
